Bismillaah,
When you find yourself excessively worried over small matters, or feeling too dependent on others to meet your financial needs, and
overburdened by the debts you seem to have accumulated… read the following adi’yaa found in ahadith.
InshaAllaah – I hope to have my focus shift from worrying too much about my debts and needs – to remembering that Allaah subhanahu wa ta’ala is Ar-Razzaaq and He is the only One who provides! We must only depend on Him to provide to us.
Allaah’s Messenger, salAllaahu alayhi wasallam used to invoke Allaah in the prayer saying, “O Allaah, I seek refuge with you from all sins, and from being in debt.” Someone said, O Allaah’s Apostle! (I see you) very often you seek refuge with Allaah from being in debt. He replied, “If a person is in debt, he tells lies when he speaks, and breaks his promises when he promises.”

اللّهُمّ اكْفِني بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِك
وَ اَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allaah! Suffice me with lawful livelihood adequate to my needs instead of ill-gotten livelihood, and graciously grant me freedom from needing anything from anyone besides Yourself. (Tirmidhi)
“O Allaah, I seek refuge in You from all worry and grief. I seek refuge in You from incapacity and slackness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and niggardliness, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and being subjected to men.”
Narrated by Abu Talha to Anas bin Malik in Sahih Bukhari, volume 8, hadith #374.
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported, “One day the Prophet salAllaahu alayhi wasallam, entered the mosque. He saw there a man from the Ansar called Abu Umamah. He asked, ‘What is the matter with you that I see you sitting in the mosque when it is not the time of prayer.’ He replied, ‘I am very much worried and in great debt, O Messenger of Allaah!’ The Prophet said, ‘Let me teach you words to say so that Allaah will remove your worries and settle your debt?’
He exclaimed, ‘Of course, O, Messenger of Allaah.’ The Prophet said, ‘Say in morning and evening, “O Allaah, I seek refuge in You from all worry and grief. I seek refuge in You from incapacity and slackness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and niggardliness, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and being subjected to men“.’ The man said, ‘When I did that, Allaah removed all my worries and settled my debt’.”
